Severe thunderstorm warning

 A weather system with the potential to cause severe thunderstorms in parts of Southern Ontario is expected to arrive on Wednesday. The storm is forecasted to vary in intensity across the province, with Northwestern Ontario, including Thunder Bay, being under winter storm warnings as per Enviornment Canada. Enviornment Canada has issued freezing rain warnings for several regions from northeastern to eastern Ontario. Up to 15 mm of ice accretion could occur, leading to power outages and tree damage.




Meanwhile, those residing in Southern Ontario should brace for heavy rainfall, gusty winds and a severe thunderstorm threat brought about by the Colorado low. As per The Weather Network, the possibility of thunderstorms stretches from northeastern Ontario across cottage country to the southwest. They have predicted that the highest likelihood for thunderstorms is in the region to the west of Greater Toronto Area leading to the Niagara Region and down to Windsor.


The Weather Network has described the weather system as a powerful Colorado low that is expected to bring with it a severe thunderstorm threat along with early summer-like warmth.

On Wednesday, Toronto may witness rainfall up to 25 mm, which is anticipated to subside by the evening, paving the way for a sunny weather period into the long weekend. The Easter weekend forecast suggests predominantly sunny weather conditions until Monday, when the rain is expected to return.

LSU Women's Basketball: A Legacy of Excellence

 The LSU women's basketball team is renowned for its remarkable achievements in the sport. The Lady Tigers have inspired generations of young women to pursue their dreams, under the guidance of legendary coaches and talented players.




The Early Years


The LSU women's basketball program was established in 1975, shortly after the passage of Title IX, which mandated equal opportunities for women in athletics. In its early years, the team struggled to find its footing. However, things began to change in the late 1980s when Sue Gunter took over as head coach.

The Gunter Era


Under Gunter's leadership, the Lady Tigers emerged as a force to be reckoned with. They made their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 1989, and in 1991, they advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history.


Over the next decade, Gunter continued to build the program into a national powerhouse. The Lady Tigers won four SEC championships and made nine appearances in the NCAA Tournament during her tenure. Gunter was known for her intense work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to her players' academic success.

In 2000, Gunter was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in recognition of her contributions to the sport. She retired from coaching in 2004 and passed away in 2005, leaving behind a lasting legacy at LSU and in women's basketball.


The Van Chancellor Era


After Gunter's retirement, Van Chancellor took over as head coach of the Lady Tigers. Chancellor had previously coached at Ole Miss and the WNBA's Houston Comets, where he won four championships with a team that featured some of the greatest players in women's basketball history, including Cynthia Cooper and Sheryl Swoopes.

Chancellor brought his winning ways to LSU, leading the Lady Tigers to two SEC championships and three appearances in the NCAA Tournament during his five-year tenure. He also coached Seimone Augustus, one of the greatest players in LSU history and a future WNBA MVP.


The Nikki Fargas Era


In 2011, Nikki Fargas became the first African-American head coach in program history. She had previously coached at UCLA and had also been an assistant coach at LSU under Chancellor.

Under Fargas' leadership, the Lady Tigers have continued to excel on the court and in the classroom. They have made six appearances in the NCAA Tournament, including a trip to the Sweet 16 in 2014. Fargas is known for her ability to recruit top talent and develop players, as well as her commitment to community service and social justice issues.

Motors

Components: Electric motors are typically composed of various components, including the rotor, stator, windings, air gap, and commutator.


Rotor: The rotor serves as the rotating part of the motor that converts electrical power into mechanical power by turning the shaft. It usually contains current-carrying conductors that interact with the magnetic field produced by the stator. However, in some cases, the rotor contains the magnets while the stator holds the conductors.

Stator: In contrast to the rotor, the stator remains stationary and forms the fixed portion of the motor's electromagnetic circuit. It generally comprises a core and either permanent magnets or windings. The core consists of several thin metal sheets, known as laminations, which minimize energy losses.

The interplay between electric and magnetic fields is crucial for the functioning of electric motors, which can be classified into two types depending on the type of current they employ. AC motors utilize alternating current, whereas DC motors utilize direct current.

Coils of wire that are wrapped around a core are commonly known as windings. When an electrical current is passed through them, they generate magnetic fields that form the basis of the motor's operation.


The air gap, which refers to the distance between the rotor and stator, is a critical element of motor design.
