n recent news, the government has extended the deadline for linking PAN with Aadhaar by three months to 30 June, 2023. Taxpayers are now required to link their Aadhaar card with PAN before the deadline to avoid any penal action. The previous deadline was 31 March, 2023. The Income Tax department has issued links on its website for taxpayers to check if their PAN is linked to Aadhaar.
If the taxpayer fails to link their Aadhaar card with PAN before the deadline, their PAN will become inoperative. This means that they will not be able to file income tax returns, perform banking services, or carry out stock market transactions. To check Aadhaar-PAN card link status online, visit the Income Tax e-filing portal and select Quick Links, then Link Aadhaar Status. Enter PAN and Aadhaar numbers, and a pop-up message will be displayed. If Aadhaar and PAN are linked, the message will say "Your PAN is already linked to given Aadhaar." In case your PAN and Aadhaar are not linked, you will be notified with a message on your screen stating that "PAN is not linked with Aadhaar". To complete the linking process, you need to click on the "Link Aadhaar" option provided.
If you have already initiated the process of linking your Aadhaar with PAN, you will see a different message which says "Your Aadhaar-PAN linking request has been forwarded to UIDAI for verification. To check the current status of your linking request, please click on the "Link Aadhaar Status" link available on the Home Page.
